Re: The Arrogant, Entitltled World Champion Los Angeles Lake

I agree that Fish is a good character guy and all that. Not being a part of any NBA locker rooms, I don't know who else on the Lakers fills that role, or even how crucial it is to some championship teams. Dallas last year seemed to have a few of that type of player, with everybody else buying in. A ...

Re: The Arrogant, Entitltled World Champion Los Angeles Lake

They're more athletic (tho Fish was a true athlete) and they got a guy who can play some minutes as a backup C/F. A further drift away from the triangle and a step towards a twin towers + Kobe mentality.

Either way, it's win now. Beasley's intriguing, but I don't know if he's the right guy.

Re: The Arrogant, Entitltled World Champion Los Angeles Lake

Gasol for Rondo? Eh...Bynum's recent uptick (which sets up lots of shots for Gasol) makes me think Sessions would be a way better deal.

Re: NBA Oddities - And Other League Issues

Good article. I don't want to denigrate Wilt either - if he played in this era he'd likely lead any well-assembled team to a few titles. But back then he was typically guarded by guys who were shorter and couldn't hold position all that well. He was ahead of his time. Even in the Seventies you somet...

Optimistic take from Kevin Ding - play free with the players and coaches you have and ignore the growing front office debacle. The next two nights (Dallas and OKC) should tell us a lot.

I feel good knowing some guy named Chaz is on board. Nobody does spoiled ne'er do well quite like the kids of LA royalty. Looking at Jerry Buss, and I thank him for what he's done, you could see this coming. http://www.cbssports.com/nba/story/17362549/kobes-frustration-a-reflection-on-lakers-deterio...

This was on longform.org and it may have been linked here before, but it's worth the time. Like a lot of "minority" viewpoints, it says a lot about the majority, dominant paradigm. "The law professor and writer Tim Wu grew up in Canada with a white mother and a Taiwanese father, which...

Re: New York Knicks ...The revival!

I'd wait and see about Carmelo. Until Lin starts campaigning for Santorum or something, I can't buy the Lin/Tebow comparison. Tebow's ass has been kissed for years, to the point that people were actually talking about running a college offense in the pros to accomodate his football glory. Lin was a ...

All voices have their sell-by date. That said, I think that behind the power moments she was a well-trained singer (notice the quiet spots in "I Will Always Love You") and could have done excellent work as a mature artist. I'll admit that while I wasn't "into" a lot of her stuff,...

Didn't think the Lakers would be the team to figure out how to stop the type of player Lin is.

I figure Jeremy Lin goes for 40 tonight.

Saw him in the D League -- you could tell had the all around skill set and deserved a chance.

Re: The Arrogant, Entitltled World Champion Los Angeles Lake

If Bynum wants more, though, Bryant is going to have to find ways to give it to him – while leaving space for Gasol to contribute and building the confidence of the role players, too. Bryant has always wanted to win more than anything, and that includes winning power plays. He has. It's still his te...

Since the Super Bowl halftime show is one of our few communal musical moments, I'll weigh in:

I liked it. Second only to Prince. A lighthanded parody of the game's imperial pomp with lots of tech, lots of teh gay, lots of Young Stars of Today.

Re: Music - A place where you can easily drop in You Tube cl

Soul Train was part of a handful of shows that you had to hunt down to help understand this mysterious popular music. I think having to wait around for Midnight Special, Soul Train, Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, and the musical guest on SNL (plus a few moments on AB, Sonny and Cher, etc) reinforced t...

This is a good place to post shit that doesn't jibe with the happy talk vibe on fb or whatever. Speaking of which, there is a great picture out there of President and Mrs. Obama greeting a bunch of the Tuskegee Airmen at the White House theater, prior to a screening of "Red Tails". It's a ...
