Isn't Vanderbilt like in Nashville? And isn't Nashville like land locked?

Did anyone consider this when they were thinking up a nick name?

I mean why not have a nick name that makes sense like Auburn Tigers or Michigan State Spartans?

"Vanderbilt University is a private research university located in Nashville, Tennessee, United States. Founded in 1873, the university is named for shipping and rail magnate "Commodore" Cornelius Vanderbilt, who provided Vanderbilt its initial $1 million endowment despite having never been to the South. The Commodore hoped that his gift and the greater work of the university would help to heal the sectional wounds inflicted by the Civil War."

Vandy bails on both Ohio State and Northwestern next year. Schedules UAB and Austin Peay instead. Apparently informed us and Northwestern by sending a letter in the mail rather than contacting anyone directly.

I wish I could find the video of Eric Ainge throwing 5 INT's (three to Junior Rosegreen) in the 2004 AU-UT game.

I imagine Lil'Boo has it tucked away somewhere, or whoever it was that always argued with Shiny on value of Ainge.

VandyMania.com‏ @ VandyManiacom 35m
James Franklin described young men who decommitted from Vandy as "not men of honor". What does that now say about Franklin himself?

Chris Dokish‏ @ ChrisDokish 44m
Penn State is systematically picking apart Vanderbilt's recruiting class tonight and the Vandy fans are furious.

Ryan Beckler‏ @ RyanBeckler 10m
247 Sports has Vandy's class free falling, dropping from 30th to 45th in a matter of a day. Penn State's is now ranked 19th.

SEC Sports Talk‏ @ SEC_SportsTalk 16m
# Vandy started the day ranked 26 on Rivals. Already dropped to 38 & presumably free falling. # PennState on the rise sitting at 20.

If he sticks around, Franklin is going to be a very tough competitor. He knows PA, Maryland, pretty much the whole Mid-Atlantic. And he's charismatic. If he doesn't jump to the NFL then they will be a loaded program by 2017 or so.

The NonConference

Temple (2-10)
UMass (1-11)
Charleston Southern (10-3)
Old Dominion (8-4)

This is how you keep a program bowl-eligible, kids

Grade: F

They're good enough now to be playing at least one credible opponent a year. Northwestern, Stanford, and Duke pretty much do.

They play an SEC slate of games. What is the expectation for them? Play a good OOC too? Why? To what end? Because I think they can live with the possibility that they might lose their macho scheduling street cred badge and they know that they won't get to the playoff, and while they've had some success of late, they have only been to 4 bowls in over 30 years.

Ah yes...the old "The SEC is the toughest schedule imaginable every year so we shouldn't be expected to play good OOC games too". Just like Alabama last year. Unimaginably tough conference schedule. Saban was nuts to not schedule 4 FCS teams.

Their schedule is pathetic and I hope Franklin doesn't pressure Penn State to start scheduling like that.
