I am glad that I don't live in SC right now. Clemson beats UGa. UGa then beats South Carolina. Fuck almighty. The state may burn to the ground again.

The NonConference

East Carolina (10-3)
Furman (8-6)
South Alabama (6-6)
@ Clemson (11-2)

Another typical SoCar schedule...biggest question is how good a team East Carolina will be.

Grade: B

If the ECU game was later in the year, the 'Cocks wouldn't have much to worry about. ECU is going to give them one hell of a game in September.

Connor Shaw was the heart and soul of last year's team. He was the heart and soul of the program for four years. He didn't put up gaudy numbers, but if you needed some crucial yardage, you gave him the ball and allowed him to figure out how to get it. Plus, he owned Clemson's sorry ass. Ellington will be missed on offense, but nearly as much as Shaw.

Yes, Clowney had shit numbers last year, but he was double teamed on every down and made teams adjust their entire game plan to him. That alone caused a lot of disruption.

Losing three DB's and Quarles to the league hurts too.

Dylan Thompson is a fifth year qb who is battled tested, and Mike Davis is a stud. On defense, there is talent, but it needs to gel quickly.

Texas A&M (August 28): Likely win. Both teams have a lot to replace, but the Aggies will come up short in Cola.

East Carolina (September 6): Win. ECU will hang around and test the SC defense, but the 'Cocks will pull away late to win by 10-17 points.

Georgia (September 13): Toss Up. UGA has all sorts of talen, but South Carolina has a legitimate chance as a result of a major issue that Georgia has yet to rectify: Mark Richt. Good God. This guy has an embarrassment of riches but can't win shit. He's the modern day Mack Brown. At least Phat Phil won a MNC (even if he did so as a result of a push off by a WR), but Richt is just fucked. Plus, I am sure Georgia will have some key players serving suspensions.

Vanderbilt (September 20): Win. It won't be a cakewalk, but South Carolina should win by 14-20 points.

Missouri (September 27): Likely win. Mizzou loses too much and doesn't have as much depth as SC with which to replace players.

Kentucky (October 4): Win. This isn't basketball.

Furman (October 18): Win. I always liked the kids who went to Wofford more than the assholes at Furman.

Auburn (October 25): Likely Loss. Auburn won't be as lucky as last year, but this is just a tad bit too much to ask of SC.

Tennessee (November 1): Win. Revenge. Butch Jones' boys are a year away.

Florida (November 15): Toss Up. I wanted to put this in the Likely Win category, but there is no way that Florida's offense will be that bad again. It's impossible. SC had trouble with Florida last year, and this game is in The Swamp.

South Alabama (November 22): Win. South in Your Mouth, bitches.

Clemson (November 29): Likely Win. The Cocks should win on paper, but the Tigers have years of frustration and plenty of defense talent. Those factors would make me list this game as a toss up or likely loss. Then, I remembered that the coaches are Spurrier and Dabo. Yeah, Dabo is Spurrier's modern day Fulmer/Goff.

Best Case Scenario:

Overall: 12-0 (6-0). SEC Champions

Bowl: Semi-Finals

Homer Prediction:

Even the most ardent SC homer will tell you this team will not go undefeated.

Overall: 11-1 (7-1). Lose in SECCG.

Bowl: Cotton or Orange Bowl

Realistic Prediction

Overall: 10-2 (6-2)

Bowl: Doubtful that the two Florida bowls tied to the SEC would want the 'Cocks again, that the 'Cocks wouldn't want them. So, it's off to Dallas for the Cotton Bowl.

Connor was impressive on his game-tying (sorta) drive for the Browns last night. Even the TD bomb that was luckily tipped into the receiver's hands was perfectly thrown but the first receiver durped it. I've always rooted for Connor (and Jaybo before him) - his dad is a friend of my wife's though now he's in Rabun County so she doesn't see him any more.

She went to Peace in Raleigh, and is from a NC State family. She nominally pulls for State, even if she can't name a single player on their roster.

Isn't it ironic that a nominal fan is precisely the one who can't name names...

Considering State went 0-8 in the ACC, why would you bother trying to learn their names?

heck, the players probably covered up the names on the backs of their jerseys so they wouldn't be recognized on campus....

Good article on SBNation about rebuilding programs...when Bill Snyder took over KSU they were so bad that players would not wear their letterman jackets and many were skipping classes because they were embarrassed to be a part of the program.
