News Flash - Richardson is not the savior. He's a talented freshman, who makes freshman mistakes.
UF can win the remaining four games but it's still a shitty year and Mullen needs to turn the recruiting disadvantage around or this pattern will continue.

Mullen will be back next year providing something really stupid doesn't happen with these last 4 weeks. Next year will be his hot seat year but it may already be sealed if he's 12th-15th in the recruiting standings. UF needs to figure out why 10 years of recruiting by three coaches with prominent resumes has fought to stay above lukewarm. It's not like FSU and UM are up and grabbing all the instate talent. For while it as 'facilities' UF didn't have an indoor facility because they didn't need one, but they built a nice and shiny one. so now what? Just about everyone in the SEC is facing the same issue except for Saban and Smart are getting them all .

It's not a matter of 'missing' - I enjoyed the tenure of both but each of them came to a point where they were done and ready to move on; that was better than them halfheartingly hanging around. SOS was a Gator and added fun to the season on and off the field while keeping a clean ship so in a choice of who I 'liked' more the lean is obvious.

The wheels have come off. Brings back memories of blocking our own people in a loss to Ga Southern. Grantham is gone - like that is going to make a difference. Mullen will stay for a year, but looking at the talent level he is bringing in, that will be it.

If you turn back the clock to late November / early December 2011, UNC was down to Larry Fedora and Dan Mullen. Mullen -- by all reputable accounts from those who should know -- was all but offering up his first born to get the UNC job. I thought Mullen would have been a good fit at UNC, and though I am sure he would have left for Florida -- or comparable program -- had that job been offered to him, I have have often wondered how things would have turned out for UNC and his career had he taken the job because I think he would have won at an above-average clip at UNC.

Recruiting wasn't an issue with Butch Davis (having John Shoop as the OC was the damn issue...at least before the NCAA and Holden Thorp fucked things up...) and has never been a major issue for a competent coach at UNC. We're not getting Top 10 classes on the regular, but a competent recruiter and coach can consistently pull classes ranked 20-30 with relative ease (over the past twenty-two classes our national average rank has been 27.6 with a conference rank of 4.9). NC produces a bunch of HS talent, and you have Virginia, SC and Georgia/Atlanta recruiting hotbeds within driving distance. UNC can recruit enough talent to be successful in the godforsaken ACC, and although it's not like UNC has Texas/OU/tOSU/Bama/UGa resources, outside of Clemson, UNC has more money than any east coast school between Athens and State College.

Yeah getting rid of Grantham made a difference - give up 150 yards and 2 TDs to SAMFORD in the first half of the 1st quarter. Makes me pine for the Doug Dickey era.
