looking at a "micro farm" - 11 acre with a farm house built in 1901. It has a 50X100 pole barn, and 2 additional barns , one of which is a fenced in horse stable.

The house needs a lot of work, the second floor is essentially gutted . Not sure if I am up for it but the wife loves it and I love the pole barn that can hold every toy I own plus a bunch I'd like to own.

Also big enough that the boy can build a house, be next to us until I'm too old to wipe my ass.

Its about 50 minutes from work. That would get old but I could work hybrid and only go in 2 days a week.

So far out in the boonies I'll have to get starlink.

Pretty scary decision overall. It would be a huge change of life - chickens, huge garden, greenhouse . Civilization is 15 minutes away with a Lowes, Rural King, Kroger and Walmart plus a bunch of fast food.

scared to death we're making a huge mistake if it do it, or we'll regret it if we don't

Fuck it man, that sounds like a blast, esp for somebody like you who can actually do (and enjoys doing) all the shit that's going to need to be done. What the hell else have you got to do? Watching TV in the burbs and tricking your wife with ice cream smoothies? This might be your last chance for a real adventure. Plus, 11 acres is nice. You can bring midgets out and film your own porn. Go for it...

I've got a 40 minute commute (each way) every day. Of course I'm a Deadhead so I usually listen to the Dead channel on Sirius, but whatever you're into it's a great opportunity to have some time totally to yourself to get into it without interruption (usually). And hell, if you've only got to do it two days a week? I predict you'll actually be looking forward to those two days just to have an hour and a half all to yourself where you don't have to do anything but listen to something you enjoy...

yea, brother tells me I need to do it

the biggest draw is building a house for my son on the property and having him with us.

I'm going to call the bank tomorrow and see what options we have.

Do it. You are the type with the skill set needed to make it work, and from what I know about you (admittedly limited to TGP and social media), this is the perfect opportunity as long as the price is right and the load bearing portions of the framing and foundation aren't compromised to the point that you would need massive repairs / engineering.

Are you going to get an engineer to check it out in addition to a normal building inspector?

I don't miss commuting 70 minutes each way, but I do miss the decompression time on the ride home.

70 minutes would be pushing it, esp if it was daily...

Jesus, just do it. You fucking moved to Texas and back, why are you whining and this? Seems like fixing up an old homestead is what you are destined to do.

I seriously think you should start a YouTube show about it.

what you don't recall from that was

IT WAS A HUGE FUCKING MISTAKE!

I got fired 6 months into it (along with 800 other people), was losing my shit for about 2 months thinking I'd lose my house, was traveling 5 days a weeks. I was also 33 years old then.

I have to admit though, I like the idea of doing a series of youtube videos on it

Wife woke up this morning with cold feet , she already feels overwhelmed at it. Its a hot and cold thing every day

It didn't help when we met with a realtor yesterday and he told us "most people are trying to get where you live now, not out of it"

No shit and we all told ye it would be folly. This seems like it's right up your alley. Although there's no way in hell I'd live out in the sticks, but i have confidence that you could manage.

So was your first marriage, but you didn't let that stop you from doing it again, did you? And look how happy you are now...

and that was if I was just going to Goldsboro...there were plenty of days I had to travel 2-3 hours each way for some deposition, mediation and the occasional hearing.
