Rick Dees was a DJ in Memphis when that song came out. I used to wake up for school to his show on AM 680, and then later on AM 560…back when AM radio was still a thing.

“Spray those pits and eat those grits, while Dees in the Morning plays the hits”

I haven’t thought of that in years. Part of a jingle they played during breaks…

Chris Stapleton is the dipshit that took Etta James' "I'd Rather Go Blind" and added some different lyrics and had a hit called "Tennessee Whiskey." Now I realize people do that all the time and Etta James didn't write the music to start with, but I don't think Stapleton ever even acknowledged that's what he did and probably has made more off his shitty remake than Etta ever did belting out the truth.

I'm so sick of dudes with acoustic guitars and backward ballcaps singing shit they didn't write, I'm going to kick the stool out from under the next one I see at an open mic.

since you introduced me to Cornbreadcowboi

I've gone the rabbit hole of David Allen Coe which lead me back to listening to Hank Williams Jr. and that lead me to Waylon Jennings

I didn't listen to Waylon Jennings even when I went thru my country phase as a teen

couldn't tell you a new country singer. hell I would tell you Toby Keith is one of them new country singers and then I read he was 62!
